Here it is - January 2007 already. I don't think it has even sank in yet. Hard to believe I've been surfing the web for over 10 years now. Computers seem to have come easy for me. I'm not one of the X generation or computer savvy geeks. In fact, I'm a woman in my late 40's, so I'm kinda in between the older generation and the geeks. I started playing with PC Jr's back in 1981 with the Scott Adams games. That was as far as I ever got with computer games. That wasn't me. Actually, I graduated with a vocational degree in commercial art. Of course, with all the technology that has happened just about puts everything I learned back in 1979 in a box. Being a woman (and once worked in a library) I lean towards organization. So I did some genealogy on my PC Jr with DOS. Then came 1995. Our first Windows 3.1 PC. On January 2, 1996 we were online (dial-up of course!). It was forward from then on. I learned basic html and by April 1996 we had our first web page up. It was for our Mom & Pop business. It has gone through several editions since then, and will see another major change this year as I learn to use Dreamweaver with Cascading Style Sheets, Macromedia Flash and Java. Might even get in some MYSQL applications before it's all over. Something from my days learning commercial art I enjoyed the publishing aspect of information, and of course the internet opens up more possibilities than one can imagine. So I have greatly enjoyed creating and maintaining our little commercial web site. We manage to get online when there were only 4 million web sites, not 4 gazillion Our web site has been very good to us over the years. It has had it's boom times and slower times, but overall it has been the best decision and addition to our business we've made. We sell oils and incense at Arts & Crafts shows and Renaissance Festivals, and we tell everyone we see about our web site. The web site adds a nice little extra to our income. Why am I telling you all this? You must be reading this because you are interested in having a web site and don't know where to start (or you could be a web graphic designer just checking me out). While I've been doing my own web site for over 10 years now, I haven't done it professionally. And since I enjoy the program writing, I 'have decided to start creating web pages for other people. For the moment, I offer a basic, static web site (meaning no animation or videos, no fancy anything). Simple images are included. A simple shopping cart can be arranged. I am not strict on limiting the number of pages or images, but probably won't do much more than 30 pages per web site. My introductory offer is $500.00. I will help you get it set up with a server and online, and submitted to Google and Open Directory. With some more practice under my belt, and as I learn more about Flash and CSS and PHP my terms will change. Contact me and let's talk. I've had a very successful working web site for 10 years for our Mom & Pop Business. If you'd like one too, I believe I can help you. Kerryscents@crystalmountain-aromatics.com (936) 443-1044 |
